Hawai‘i is home to the world’s tallest mountain—measured from base to summit.
While Mount Everest is the tallest above sea level, Mauna Kea on the Big Island is the tallest when measured from its base on the ocean floor—it rises over 33,500 feet (10,210 meters), which is nearly a mile taller than Everest! Only about 13,800 feet of it is above sea level.
